Former UGA Forestry School Dean to Join F&W’s Executive Management Team
ALBANY, Ga. — Michael L. (Mike) Clutter, a former professor and dean of the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, has joined F&W Forestry Services.
After a 40-year career in academia and the forestry sector, Clutter has assumed the newly created position at F&W of Chief Analytics Officer, where he will be responsible for guiding and facilitating the continued development and improvement of the company’s back-office support services and information management solutions for timberland owners.
F&W is a major U.S. and international forest management, consulting, and services firm headquartered in Albany, Ga., with extensive operations throughout the major forestry regions of the U.S., South America, France, and the United Kingdom.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Mike Clutter on the F&W team,” said F&W President Marshall Thomas. “His educational background and career experience, including working in academia and the private sector, brings a unique perspective and skill set to help drive our future development.”
For more than 20 years, F&W has provided outsourced support services for mid-to-large timberland owners and investment managers. F&W has experienced significant growth in this area over the last few years as clients realign their focus. Keeping up with this demand requires additional analytics and new technologies to continue to improve data analysis and reporting.
An authority on economics of the forest industry, including finance, budgeting, and timberland management, Clutter earned master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Georgia Warnell School and was on the faculty from 2001 to 2015, serving as dean from 2007 to 2015. He has conducted extensive research on financial aspects of the forest industry and timberland management practices.
