Upward-sweeping Graphs Set Tone For New Year
Timber stumpage prices are increasing, and the latest issue of The F&W Forestry Report has the graphs to show it.
“There is just nothing prettier to a tree farmer than an upward-sweeping [timber] price graph,” notes Marshall Thomas, president of F&W Forestry Services, in the winter issue of his company’s newsletter. “We are still early in the recovery, and this could stop as it did in 2012, but the graphs sure look great now.”
In addition to these positive timber price trends, Thomas notes that the more negatively impactful tax provisions of President Biden’s Build Back Better legislation have been excluded from the House bill, and while less onerous tax increases did make it in, “they may be partially offset by the proposed increase in the deductible amount for state and local taxes.”
All in all, a good start to the new year!
